Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) review

hey guys, I am sorry I know it has been long…………………12th……………study…………….blah,blah,blah, but recently I saw Guardians of the Galaxy, and it was amazing, and I just had to write a review, and I also did a video review, the text and the video, are about the same, whichever you prefer….

Guardians of the Galaxy is directed by James Gunn, and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel and Lee Pace. Seriously though, before I move on to the review, I need to say something, this movie is frickin awesome, this is what I have wanted all year, with a great summer for movies, which include X-Men Days of Future Past, Dawn of the planet of the apes, Edge of Tomorrow, Neighbours,22 Jump Street, Godzilla and How to Train Your Dragon 2, all these movies had some flaws that stuck with me throughout, or something that stopped from calling these movies perfect or excellent, what I am trying to say is there was something underwhelming about these movies, DOTPOTA had forgettable human characters, DOFP had some issues with continuity and a slightly disappointing third act, Edge of Tomorrow with its cop out ending, Godzilla with its dramatic build-up of the monsters appearance until we reach the third act of the film, How to Train Your Dragon 2 with a disappointing villain and disappointing third act. Don’t get me wrong, all these movies were great, but there was something underwhelming about them, and that’s where the strength of Guardians of the Galaxy lies it gave me exactly what I expected from the film and gave a lot more than that too.

The plot of the movie is simple; a group of misfits team up to take down a villain named Ronan the accuser played by Lee Pace who wants to destroy the planet, Xandar. These include, a human Peter Quill or Star-Lord played by Chris Pratt, an assassin Gamora played by Zoe Saldana, a muscle man Drax, played by WWE wrestle Dave Batista, a genetically engineered Raccoon, Rocket, voiced by Bradley Cooper, and a humanoid tree Groot played by Vin Diesel.

The plot isn’t the movie’s strength, but its strength is in its memorable characters, its unpredictable comedic moments, a well-written screenplay, the direction, the film’s look and the soundtrack. Much of the film’s credit should be given to director and writer James Gunn, who really took his job very seriously with this movie, the casting was perfect, everyone does a great job, but Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel really stood out to me in this film, with Chris Pratt’s goofiness, Bradley Coopers cussing, and Vin Diesel’s innocence as Groot, make this movie a lot better than it already is.

The cinematography and the art design of this film, were a wonder to look at and above all, what impressed me most was how much it expands the marvel cinematic universe, how much potential for the future of this universe it reveals, what Thanos wants, it didn’t feel like a Marvel movie at all.

The movie’s consistency as an action comedy never disappointed me, there were shifts from comedic moments to dramatic ones and these shifts were done perfectly, making the film feel fluid and it never felt like these shifts were shoe horned for the sake of character development, it all felt natural. The films energy and the fun feeling, and that child-like wonder were what made me love this movie so much. The action sequences where excellent, hitting all the right beats, and memorable chase scenes. The soundtrack that involves a lot of 70’s pop music was so unpredictably catchy and unexpectedly fit into the movie.

With a lot of things worth praising about this movie, there is but one problem that I had, the villain, look, Ronan the Accuser isn’t the worst villain out there, he just isn’t memorable, he’s pure evil and really doesn’t have much of a strong presence in the film, but with so many things that this movie got right, it’s easy for someone like me to overlook these flaws, this film gives that sense of fun that so many films try so miserably hard to to do these days, and with that I am giving Guardians of the galaxy a solid 4.5/5 stars, and this is now my favorite Marvel movie of all time.

Final Rating: 4.5/5

have a great time.

Until the next blog
